Shared folders

Share a folder with teammates so anyone can drop files in, edit them, and use them in their own Sauna sessions.

Where it lives in the sidebar

Shared folders get their own section in the left sidebar, below My Files and Memory, with a Users icon. Expand any folder to browse the files inside, the same way you'd browse anything else.

  • Read-only folders show a small View label.
  • Writable folders have no label. You can drop files in, rename, edit, or delete.
  • Right-click a folder you own for Open, Manage Access, or Delete.

Roles

  • Read + write lets the person add files, edit them, and drop them into chat sessions.
  • Read-only is view only. Files appear with a "View" label and the New button is hidden.

The folder's owner can change roles, remove people, and delete the folder.

Creating a shared folder

Two paths.

From an existing folder. Right-click a folder in My Files and choose Share. The dialog opens right away and Sauna starts moving the folder. It disappears from My Files and shows up in Shared with a spinner while the files transfer; once it's ready, the spinner clears.

You can search for people and queue invites while that's happening, or close the dialog and come back later. The move keeps going in the background. Refreshing the page is fine.

From scratch. Hit New + at the top of the Shared section and create an empty shared folder.

Drag and drop into a writable shared folder

Drag a file or folder onto a writable shared folder. A green ring marks the drop target, and a confirmation appears: "Files will be visible to everyone in this folder." Confirm, and the files move.

Visibility and timing

The moment you invite someone, the folder shows up in their Shared section without a refresh. They start with whatever role you picked. If you later promote a viewer to writer, their sidebar updates the same way. No reload.

What edits feel like

Edits propagate live. When a teammate writes to a shared file, your sidebar refreshes and the file reflects the new state without a manual reload. Changes Sauna makes on your behalf during a session show up for everyone else as soon as it's saved.

Edit different files in the same shared folder at the same time and you'll never notice. They don't collide. Edit the same file at the same time and Sauna merges the two changes when it can; for files it can't merge (like images or PDFs), the latest save wins.

What stays private

Anything outside a shared folder. Your sessions, your knowledge, your scheduled tasks, and everything in My Files are still yours. Sharing only ever touches the folders you've explicitly shared.
